The answer is it depends on context. facebook is working here to build community and provide another "front porch", but Twitter is unheard of and unused, while in N GA, Gary Lamb says Twitter is THE thing that’s helping them build community.

facebook has served us well as a tool to keep our congregation connected between Sundays. We use the ‘events’ application to promote events and get things on the radar of people who aren’t as likely to hang the church bulletins on their fridge. twitter has yet to catch on, but is slowly gaining some traction. We use both twitter and the facebook status updates to notify friends/followers when new podcast episodes are available.
A key is streamlining our social media profiles…crossposting status updates, rss feeds and uploaded content so it doesnt become too time consuming
