I really wish you had consulted someone familiar with statistics before you made this move. It is a figment of imagination to believe that a 1000 point grading system will allow refinement in expressing the achievement of a student. Evan a 100 point grading system is deceptive in its expression of differences in student achievement. Does anyone really believe that a person who receives, say, a 95 has achieved less than a person who receives a 96? Assignments only sample what a student knows. Sampling has well known benefits and well-known pitfalls. I think the faculty are deluding themselves if they think otherwise.
